You don't have to be an expert in the types of acne ... let's leave that to the scientists and dermatologists!
I didn't really care what type of acne was what, I just wanted an acne treatment that was going to give me clear skin.
However, acne ranges in severity from mild to severe with different types responding to different treatments so it is beneficial to know what type you have even if you don't know all the jargon that goes with it!
So what are the different types of acne?
When people talk of acne they are usually referring to Acne Vulgaris. It's the most common type of acne and can be divided into the following groups.

Let's look at mild to moderate acne vulgaris first ...
Whiteheads ... well ... have a white head. These types of acne are completley
blocked (this is why it's called a closed comedone). Since it's closed it protects
it from the air and stops it turning black.
Blackheads aren't completley blocked (the reason it's called an openPapules are inflamed red spots that are usually sore to touch with no head.

Pustules
are very common and similar to a whitehead, but is inflamed
with redness and a white or yellow centre.

As well as mild to moderate acne there is also severe forms of acne vulgaris known as nodules and cysts.
Nodules are much larger than the mild to moderate forms mentioned above. The are large hard bumps beneath the skin's surface.
Cysts have the same characteristics as nodules but they contain pus.........................................................................................................................
