Pro Active Solution Review

I’ve complained about the Pro Active solution as an acne treatment to my friends and family a lot,  so I thought I’d share my experience with this skin care treatment in a review below.

First of all the marketing for Pro activ products is fantastic.  They use popular celebrities to endorse the solutions offered which entices you even more – it worked on me!

The Proactiv system uses the active ingredient Benzoyl Peroxide (BP). Although BP can be helpful Proactiv uses a LOT of it which will dry out and irritate most skin types.

The smell is awful but I’d be willing to put up with that if it helped clear my acne without any side effects.

The first thing I noticed was that my towels were being bleached … even after I wash my hands!  That got me thinking about how strong this product is and what long term damage it could do to my skin.

I didn’t need to ask what COULD it be doing to my skin because I started to see what is Was physically doing to it.  Not only did Pro Active bleach my towels it also bleached my eyebrows and hairline.

My skin also started to become more and more dry and tight and also started to flake.  It also started to become sore to touch and putting moisturiser on to help the dry areas was painful!

The dryness of my skin was also causing fine lines which as my friends didn’t hesitate to tell me made me look older!

The flakiness started clogging my pores and causing break outs … definitely not the intention!

I didn’t get any of the solution in my eyes, but they seemed to sting … you know that way if your eating a strong mint and it makes your eyes water … when I started using this treatment.

If you have a similar problems like above don’t make the mistake that I did and keep using the treatment thinking it will get worse before it gets better.

Just stop using it immediately.  Your skin will take a week or two to get back to balance but the good news is the dryness will go away.  If you want you can try using it again when your skin heals but not as often or on all areas of your face.

You can even just buy tubes of benzyl peroxide which are cheaper than Pro Activ.
I strongly recommend that you don’t buy Proaktiv. There are definitely better products or solutions to clear acne that don’t have the possibility of causing such harsh reactions with your skin.

I think if you have oily skin then Pro activ has less chance to dry your skin and more chance of working.  However, I’d still recommend finding a more natural product than Pro activ because it’s not something I’d want to apply to my skin for long periods of time.
