Skin Types - Get To Know Your Skin Type ...
Home > Skin Types
Knowing your skin type can help you get closer to finding the best acne treatment for you.
Before I considered my skin type I just assumed it was 'normal' because it wasn't extreme in any of the different types of skin ...
... but after doing some research I found out I had combination skin!How about you? Do you know your skin type or do you THINK you know - like I did.
There are 4 main skin types: Normal, Dry, Oily and
Combination.
Normal
Another noticeable characteristic of normal skin is the evenly sized pores as well as the lack of oily or dry patches.
If this is your skin type I envy you!
But remember although it's the ideal skin to have, it doesn't mean you don't need to take care of it!
Dry
Dry skin types are prone to a feeling of tightness - I notice this when
I get out the shower - as well as flakey patches. The flaking skin may
cause itching too.
This skin type tends to cause fine lines easier especially around the eyes and mouth area, so it definitely needs a proper skin care regime.
Oily
Oily skin causes a really shiny look and greasy feel. This
skin
type is caused by overactive sebaceous (oil) glands and usually has
large pores and is more prone to acne.
Combination
This is a challenging skin type because different areas require
different treatments - it's like having two faces to deal
with.
The t-zone is likely to be oily (forehead, nose and chin) and the rest of the face can be dry or normal.
Your skin type can change during the year or at different times of the month so make sure you aware of this to stay in control of your acne.
It
can also be influenced by factors such as:
* hormones
* medications
* environmental factors
* sun exposure
* health problems
* cleansing and cosmetic
regimes.
So
just make sure you are aware of your skin and work with it to fight
acne.
Tip: Dr Leslie Baumann discovered that the main skin types can be
broken down further giving 16 different types in total - each with its
own unique needs.
She
discusses her findings in her book "The
Skin Type Solution".
If
you want to know your precise skin type then it's all in here.
There's a questionnaire included that helps you identify your
