Garlic For Acne - Why Try Garlic, Tips And A Garlic Mask Recipe!

Garlic for acne has proven to be an effective home treatment for many acne sufferers.  My skin becomes aggravated when I eat garlic but when applied topical it has different results!

Why Try A Garlic Acne Treatment?

The garlic juice that results from crushing the cloves contains allicin.  It’s the allicin that gives the garlic natural antifungal, antibiotic and cleansing properties, which makes it effective as part of you skin care regime.

Garlic is a natural Vitamin C source which provides a stimulation for collagen production in the deeper skin layers.

The sulfur compounds in garlic work with the allicin to dilate the blood vessels which helps the blood carry nutrients to all parts of the body and skin more efficiently.

Tips When Using Garlic For Acne

Firstly, I would suggest you start slowly because you can always add more garlic later.  The reason I say this is because some people (me) try too much at once and their skin becomes red and feels like it’s burnt.  You may think you can get away with applying lots of garlic because its natural but your skin can still be abused with home remedies.

The main idea is to play around with it and see what combination works for you.

An Effective Garlic Acne Treatment

- crush 6 cloves of garlic, if you find 6 is too much to start off with you can start with 2/3 and work up to 6 if you need to.

- 1 spoonful manuka honey

- a dash of turmeric powder or freshly grated turmeric (this is what really makes it more effective)

The mask does smell bad but it’s worth it if it helps your acne problem. Some people experience a burning sensation but within the next day or 2 the notice their acne is less angry and starts to clear.

Tip: As you can see from the colouring, turmeric can stain your skin.  If you are really pale like me you can be freaked out about ending up looking like a member of the Simpsons so use a small amount to start with to see how your skin goes.

Mix the ingredients and apply to your cleansed face on acne and acne prone areas. Let the solution sit on your skin for 10 - 30 minutes then wash off with warm water. Apply a moisturiser where needed.

Some people like to apply an aspirin mask afterwards to reduce redness.
